DUSTIN HIGGS GOES BACK TO BACK WITH SSWA VICTORY AT KATANNING!
Dustin Higgs has taken out his second consecutive SSWA Summer Series round by winning round four at Katanning.
Higgs took out two heat races, as did his father Dusty Higgs. Kyle Larson and Rob Knox also claimed a heat race each.
Dusty would qualify on pole for the twenty lap feature race with Dustin on his outside. Knox and Larson would occupy the second row for the feature race.
The father and son duo would head through turns one and two side by side, Dusty on the inside and Dustin on the outside. Dustin began to creep ahead down the back straight, and into turn three. A slight mistake from Dusty out of turn four allowed Dustin to streak away into the lead.
Knox had settled into third, and Nathan Thiele was able to displace Larson at the start to take fourth.
The caution light was out for the first time on lap two after Ryan Huxtable was sent spinning to the infield.
Dustin got away to a four to five car length lead in the first few laps after the caution, but Dusty would reel him back in, and was right on Dustin’s tail heading into lap eight.
A small mistake out of turn four and Dusty was able to pull alongside his son, but Dustin slammed the door shut into turn one and maintained the lead.
The battle for fourth at the same time was raging on. Larson had gotten right alongside Thiele on the outside and was mounting a charge for fourth.
Thiele was able to creep back ahead, as the caution light was back on for a spinning Lukas Lampert on lap fourteen.
Dustin would lead at the resumption for the final six lap dash to the chequers. Dusty was right on the tail of Dustin, applying huge amounts of pressure for the lead of the race.
Dustin would hold firm however, and go on to record his second victory in as many starts. Dusty would cross the line second just two car lengths back.
Knox would round out the podium for the third consecutive race. Knox would finish well clear of his fellow Mount Barker competitor Thiele in fourth, ahead of Larson in fifth.
The SSWA Summer Series will resume with round five on New Years Day in Esperance!
