DUSTY SCORES AT ALBANY!
Dusty Higgs has gotten back on the winners list after winning round seven of the SSWA Summer Series brought to you by Glenn’s Heavy Recovery & Towing at Atwell Park Speedway in Albany.
Higgs kicked off his night with a win in the opening heat of the night. Higgs would lead home Rob Knox in second, and Jerome Wade in third.
Dustin Higgs came from deep in the pack to take the win in heat two. Higgs would get the best of Kyle Larson in second, and Ajay Hammer in third.
Knox would take the win in heat three, ahead of the returning Phil Barton in second, and Bryce Fisher in third.
Dustin Higgs would go two for two in the fourth heat of the night, leading home his father Dusty in second. Larson would secure another podium finish by crossing the line in third.
Dustin wouldn’t stop there and would conclude a perfect run in the heats with a third heat win in the penultimate heat of the evening. The podium would be the same as heat one with Larson in second, and Wade in third.
Dusty Higgs would secure his second win of the night in the sixth and final heat race, leading home Fisher in second, and Knox in third.
The front row would again be Higgs lock out for the twenty lap main event.
Dustin would get the jump from pole position and set off into the lead, with Dusty in second, and Knox in third.
Dustin would build a strong lead as he raced his way towards lap traffic.
Dusty was able to narrow the gap, and looked to be building pressure on Dustin, when Dustin came to an abrupt halt, suffering an electrical issue that would cut power to the car.
The yellow flag would fly and Dustin was adjudged as the cause of the stoppage, and once he got his car fired back up, he would head to the rear of the field for the restart.
Dusty would lead at the resumption, with Knox, Larson, Fisher and Barton in hot pursuit.
Dusty would build a nice lead as the battle for the minor placings heated up.
Barton having started from seventh, built up a head of steam on the inside of the track, with everyone else running the top of the track. Barton would work his way through to second on the final lap.
Barton would run out of time and Dusty would greet the chequers to claim his third win of the season, and extend the Higgs family streak to seven feature wins in a row.
Barton would cross the line second, in a confidence boosting performance.
Knox secured another podium finish by finishing third. Larson continued his form resurgence with another strong showing finishing fourth. Fisher rounded out the top five, securing the best finish of his Super Sedan career to date.
No time off for SSWA as we head to Mount Barker this weekend for round eight.
